Carla Medina joined Mariachi Las Alteñas in 2004. A native of Seguin, she started learning about mariachi in her senior year of high school. After graduation, she immersed herself in the renowned mariachi program at the University of Texas-Pan American, now UTRGV. During her time at UT-Pan Am, she was an original member of their first Femenil group, won the University Level Vocal Competition at the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza and the Master’s Division at Noche de Gala. After performing onstage at the Vargas Extravaganza she had the opportunity to audition for Las Alteñas, and the rest is history. She was tapped to become the Associate Mariachi Director at Irving Middle School and loved her time there. Currently, she is Mariachi Co-Director at the non-profit organization Teatro de Artes de Juan Seguin, where she first got her start in mariachi. She has been a licensed REALTOR® at Trinidad Realty Partners since 2018 and, above all, a mother to her two greatest loves - her son Alexander and daughter Scarlett.
