Janaina Gonzalez is from the Southside of San Antonio and is a current student at Texas State University pursuing her bachelor's degree in music studies with a concentration in mariachi and a minor in Spanish.
In high school, Janaina was top 10 of her class and achieved placements in the region mariachi all four years. In her high school years, she was also a part of the San Antonio Mariachi Academy and won 3rd place at the 27th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza in the college division.
Janaina has been a member of the Texas State Group, Mariachi Nueva Generación. With this group, she has competed in the Las Cruces Mariachi International Contest and won the opportunity to open up for the groups Mariachi Cobre and Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan. She also had the opportunity to compete with this group at the 30th Annual Mariachi Extravaganza and won 1st place in the college division that granted the opportunity to open up for Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán.
Her plan in the next upcoming years is to graduate and become an elementary or mariachi school educator.
